Anthropic expands GSA partnership: Claude for all levels of government

What happened

Anthropic has expanded its partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA). According to Anthropic, the new agreement gives government partners a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API. For the first time, the discount applies across all product surfaces, including when agencies buy directly from Anthropic today and through cloud providers in the coming months. The discount also extends to state, local, tribal and territorial governments.

Scope and terms

Anthropic estimates the savings for the government at $1 billion. Agencies are not bound by a minimum spend commitment and pay only for the usage they consume. Anthropic also says it is launching a dedicated program to help agencies implement and make the most of Claude. According to Anthropic, about 500 US federal, state and local government organizations now use Claude. Anthropic says weekly active users of Claude for Government have grown roughly eightfold since February.

Use cases reported by Anthropic

Anthropic cites several examples that it reports itself: according to Anthropic, Utah gave Claude Code to 34 developers across 10 state agencies, and 71% reported saving 20 or more hours by the end of a four-week pilot. Anthropic says a US state CIO responded to a ransomware attack in 8 minutes instead of the usual 2 to 3 days. These figures come from Anthropic and have not been independently verified.

Security requirements

Anthropic says Claude for Government has been generally available since September 30 and holds FedRAMP High authorization. Through Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic says Claude is authorized for FedRAMP High, with select models also authorized for DoD IL4 and IL5 workloads in AWS GovCloud. On Google Cloud's Vertex AI, Anthropic says Claude is authorized for FedRAMP High. For Claude Enterprise, Anthropic says a FedRAMP Moderate authorization is in process through the FedRAMP 20x program.

Assessment

For German companies and authorities, the development is mainly a signal of how AI providers are moving into public infrastructure through framework contracts and cloud platforms. Whether similar pricing models or certification paths become relevant outside the US cannot be derived from the sources provided.
